It began operating in 1863 in a strategic enclave on a small peninsula, between the beaches of <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.suances.net\/es\/informacion\/playas-de-suances\/7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><mark class=\"has-inline-color\" style=\"background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0); color: #e38436;\">La Concha and Los Locos<\/mark><\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, to aid navigation at the entrance of the San Mart\u00edn estuary and to mark the five islands located near Punta del Cuerno.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Built at the mouth of the San Mart\u00edn de la Arena estuary, where a medieval fortification once stood to defend Suances from enemy invasions. Today, it is a <\/span><b>reference point for surfers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> all year round.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">History tells us that its light served to save seven crew members of the Italian brigantine &#8216;<em>Franceschino<\/em>&#8216;, which sank in 1880 after a leak opened in its hull. Additionally, you can listen to the relaxing sound of the sea from<\/span><b> Roca Blanca<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">natural monument<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> just a few meters from the lighthouse.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Couples looking to immortalize their romance with the spectacular views offered by the <\/span><b>Punta del Torco de Afuera Lighthouse<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have made it a witness to the eternal love of countless stories.<\/span><b><\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2_La_Cerda_Lighthouse\"><\/span><strong>2. <b>L<\/b><\/strong><b>a Cerda Lighthouse<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Inaugurated in 1870 in the privileged setting of the <\/span><b>Magdalena Peninsula<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, where the former summer residence of King Alfonso XIII is located: the <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/palaciomagdalena.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><mark class=\"has-inline-color\" style=\"background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0); color: #e38436;\">Magdalena Palace in Santander<\/mark><\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It takes its name from the Santa Cruz de la Cerda battery, which in medieval times was intended to protect Santander Bay from enemies.
