About us

The family behind Glutendtrotters: travel, food and gluten-free life.

At Glutendtrotters, we believe that traveling and enjoying great food shouldn’t be a problem for people with celiac disease. We are a blog dedicated to making your gluten-free adventures easier, safer and more delicious.

We were born out of a shared passion: to explore the world while taking care of our health and that of our community. The team is formed by Rita, with more than 20 years of experience in tourism; Manuel, chemical engineer and technology expert; and of course, our girls, Aitana, Paola and Manuela, three other adventurers.

Together we created this space where other travelers like us and with the same restrictions can find inspiration, practical advice and recommendations.

On this page, you will discover who we are, what motivates us and how we work every day to be your ally in every trip and every recipe. We want you to feel that you are not alone in this journey, because gluten-free travel is possible and can be unforgettable.

How Glutendtrotters was born

The idea for Glutendtrotters was born at Christmas 2022. Our daughter Manuela has celiac disease. We love to travel, discover new places and live experiences, but Manuela’s disease made every trip a challenge. Despite being lovers of improvisation, we had to plan every detail regarding food, which restaurants to go to and to find out if we could find a variety of gluten-free products in that destination.

That’s when we realized we were not alone. Many people with celiac disease, like us, were looking for resources to enjoy carefree travel. That’s how Glutendtrotters was born: a project that combines our passion for traveling with celiac disease.

From that moment on, both Manuel and I have had a clear objective: to become a trusted guide for those who, like you, want to explore the world without giving up their health or the pleasures of the country’s gastronomy. Every post, recommendation and recipe we share with you is designed for you to enjoy without fear.

Rita and Manuel

We are Rita and Manuel, a couple passionate about travel, gastronomy and continuous learning. Together we founded Glutendtrotters with the mission to make life easier for people with celiac disease and demonstrate that gluten-free travel is not only possible, but also enjoyable and enriching.

I have more than 20 years of experience in tourism, especially in hotels, and I’ve always been passionate about traveling and discovering new places. Now, together with Manuel, we plan every trip down to the smallest detail: hotels, restaurants where we can eat worry-free, and the must-see spots.

Another of my passions is cooking. Given Manuela and Manuel’s condition, I take great care preparing gluten-free food, from starters to desserts. In the section dedicated to cooking you’ll find some of our recipes.

Manuel is a chemical engineer and teacher, among other subjects, of biology. He’s in charge of the technical side of the blog, making sure your experience on the site is fast and smooth.

He has Hashimoto’s disease, the autoimmune variant of hypothyroidism, and shares the celiac genes with Manuela, so he doesn’t eat gluten either. Ever curious, he loves traveling and searching together for new destinations and restaurants without any fear.

Aitana is the oldest of my daughters and the family’s instagrammer: she runs our social media, posts Instagram stories and Facebook posts, and keeps an eye on our followers.

She also loves to travel to expand her photo book, even though flying isn’t her favorite part. Luckily, her excitement for new places usually wins over the fear.

Paola is the middle of my three daughters, and her natural creativity makes her the best candidate in the family for our recipe section: at Glutendtrotters she’s my personal assistant for our most delicious recipes, especially desserts.

She’s passionate about TV series and about travel, even to places we’ve visited before. Her dream destination is Vietnam.

Manuela is the youngest of the family. She’s had celiac disease since she was one, so she’s never known what it’s like to eat gluten. She’s a whirlwind: she loves painting, doing make-up like her sisters, and dressing up every day.

Although she doesn’t play a leading role on the website, Manuela was the turning point that gave this project its gluten-free travel focus.

All together, we form the imperfectly perfect Glutendtrotters team. We want our website to be more than just a blog: a meeting point for passionate travelers, lovers of good food and curious to find support, inspiration and solutions to enjoy a gluten-free lifestyle.
