As you know, this corner of Portugal has completely captivated us. If you are planning your next adventure, in this article, you will discover the best places to enjoy gluten-free dishes in this jewel of the Atlantic. Don’t forget to take along a good guidebook, and book the complete tour of Lisbon in advance so you don’t miss a single detail.
During our last visit to the Portuguese capital and its surroundings, we treated ourselves to a week dedicated not only to culture and heritage but also to its rich gastronomy. We hope the essence we’ve captured in this guide encourages you to explore this dazzling metropolis.
And if these culinary suggestions make you fear gaining a few extra pounds, don’t worry! Lisbon, with its winding staircases, cobblestone streets, and steep neighborhoods, guarantees plenty of exercise. So remember to pack comfortable footwear for those aerobic sessions, which will naturally balance out the dreaded scale.
Yes, we know. You might be thinking: An Italian restaurant in Lisbon? But it’s not just any Italian place, it’s the Italian place. When we discovered it, it was impossible to resist. One of the challenges for a celiac is finding quality gluten-free pasta, and this place is a guaranteed hit.
We had dinner there on our first night, right after visiting the Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara. Although the return to our apartment was quite a nighttime adventure, it was worth it. If you prefer to avoid getting lost in the city at night like we did, I recommend booking a door-to-door transfer, which is fast and safe.
The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the value for money is unbeatable. Although the pizzas are not gluten-free, watching the chef work in the glass-walled kitchen is a real show.
Located between Praça do Comércio and Alfama, this peculiar establishment focuses on French fries, which you can customize with a variety of sauces and toppings to your liking. It is ideal both for dining in or taking away to enjoy while taking a free tour of the Alfama neighborhood.
Needless to say, yes, we went back—we couldn’t resist the temptation.
Well, fast, affordable, and with a lovely atmosphere. We will definitely fall for it again on our next visit.

We stayed in an apartment very close by, but if you prefer to be right in the tourist center, you can choose large hotel chains, ideal for getting around the city with total freedom.
For our last dinner, we chose this crêperie recommended for its excellent value for money.
The crêpes, made from buckwheat flour, are a delight. Although we leaned towards the savory ones, the sweet ones are a temptation that is hard to resist. Aitana, Paola, and Manuela succumbed without hesitation for dessert.
From there, we headed to see a beautiful sunset at the Miradouro dos Barros, where there is a quiet, bohemian atmosphere that was the perfect finishing touch to our trip.
An Italian gelateria on Rua Garrett that serves the creamiest gelato we have ever tasted.
Although the price is somewhat higher, the quality is undeniable.

All the venues we recommend in this guide have been personally visited by us, but there are others that we will go to on our next visit to Lisbon. The ones that caught our attention the most and are also endorsed by the APC (Portuguese Celiac Association)are the following:
It is a restaurant with a varied range of dishes ranging from grains to pasta, with gluten-free, lactose-free, and vegan options. Its star product is rice in any of its versions and techniques. The online reviews are very good both for their dishes and their service.
This company also has a cafeteria & bakery, Rice Me Deli, at V. António Augusto de Aguiar 124 A, with excellent options for breakfast or a snack that are also gluten-free, lactose-free, and egg-free.
As we already mentioned in our post about the 10 must-see places in Lisbon, we still had to visit this well-known pastry shop where you can try gluten-free Pastéis de Belém and other delights.
This time we couldn’t fit it into our trip itinerary, but on our next visit, there will be no excuses.
Another pastry shop, a bit further from the center but with a menu that will leave you speechless.
We are looking forward to visiting this cozy place and enjoying one of their famous brunches. The reviews rate it very highly, and our mouths are watering just thinking about it.
Lisbon, with its magical corners, its vibrant atmosphere, and its rich culture, has earned a special place in our hearts. As celiacs, we understand how crucial it is to find reliable places to eat without fear, and that is exactly what we have offered you with this guide. But remember, Lisbon is much more than food. It is the perfect combination of emotions, stories, and unique experiences that await discovery.
