Here you’ll find the famous Kilómetro Cero, the point from which all of Spain’s radial roads begin, and the popular statue of the Bear and the Strawberry Tree, the official symbol of the capital.
Don’t forget to stop by the Casa de Correos, now the seat of the regional government. It’s famous for its clock, which marks the traditional New Year’s Eve countdown every December 31st.
Haven’t had breakfast yet? Then it’s the perfect time to stop by Chocolatería San Ginés, where you can enjoy a delicious hot chocolate with gluten-free churros — a true Madrid classic!

Very close to Puerta del Sol you’ll find Plaza Mayor, another must-see classic in Madrid. This rectangular square, surrounded by arcades and historic buildings, was for centuries the epicenter of markets, popular festivals, and even bullfights.
Today, Plaza Mayor stands as one of the most photogenic and historically rich spots in Madrid. Before leaving, don’t forget to check out the equestrian statue of Philip III, proudly standing at the center of the square — a true symbol of this iconic location.

Although it is no longer the official residence of the Spanish royal family, it still hosts important state ceremonies and official receptions. Its monumental architecture and the beautiful surroundings are sure to leave you speechless.
We recommend booking your Royal Palace tickets in advance to skip the lines.
Just opposite the Royal Palace stands the Almudena Cathedral, devoted to the patron saint of Madrid. Its modern interior design and stunning neo-Romanesque crypt make it a hidden treasure that definitely deserves a visit.

After visiting the Royal Palace, we recommend taking a leisurely walk to the Parque de la Montaña, where the Temple of Debod is located. This ancient Egyptian temple, over 2,200 years old, was donated to Spain in gratitude for its help in preserving the monuments of Nubia.
The Temple of Debod is one of the most magical spots in Madrid, especially if you’re looking to enjoy one of the best sunsets in the city. However, if you visit at midday, you’ll still be treated to beautiful views of the Madrid skyline.
