This policy explains which cookies glutendtrotters.com uses, what they are for, and how you can accept them, reject them or change your mind at any time. It follows Article 22(2) of Spanish Act 34/2002 (LSSI-CE), Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR) and the Guide on the use of cookies published by the Spanish Data Protection Agency.
1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small file that a website stores in your browser when you visit it. It can be used, for example, to remember the language you selected, to count how many people read an article, or to display advertising.
Throughout this policy we use “cookies” in a broad sense: it also covers similar technologies such as browser local storage, tracking pixels and device identifiers.
2. Types of cookies we use
We group them into four categories according to their purpose:
- Strictly necessary. Essential for the site to work: security, load balancing, remembering your language or your cookie preferences. These do not require consent and cannot be switched off in the settings panel.
- Preference or personalisation. They remember choices you have made, such as your details in the comment form, so you do not have to type them again.
- Analytics or measurement. They let us know, in aggregate, how many people visit the site and which content is most useful, so we can improve it.
- Advertising and behavioural advertising. They make it possible to display ads, measure their performance, avoid repetition and, if you allow it, tailor them to your interests. These are what fund the blog.
Depending on who manages them, cookies can be first-party (ours) or third-party (from companies such as Google or Cloudflare). Depending on how long they last, they can be session cookies (deleted when you close the browser) or persistent cookies (stored for a set period).

The tables below list the main cookies used. Providers update their cookies fairly often, so the definitive, current list at any moment is the one shown in the site’s cookie settings panel.

4. Embedded third-party content
Some articles include embedded content from other platforms (videos, maps or social media posts). When that content loads, the platform in question may set its own cookies, exactly as if you had visited their website. That processing is governed by their privacy policies, not ours.
5. How to accept, reject or change your preferences
The first time you visit the site, a notice lets you accept all cookies, reject them all, or configure them by category. Rejecting is just as easy as accepting and does not restrict your access to any content.
Until you make a choice, only strictly necessary cookies are set, as these are exempt from consent. Continuing to browse, scrolling or closing the notice does not count as acceptance.
You can change your mind or withdraw your consent at any time, just as easily as you gave it, through the cookie settings link in the site footer. Your choice is remembered for a maximum of 24 months, after which we will ask you again.
6. Managing cookies in your browser
Independently of our settings panel, you can block or delete cookies from your browser settings. Here are the official instructions:

7. What happens if you reject cookies
You will still be able to read everything. We do not use “cookie walls”: rejecting cookies does not block your access to any article.
What you will notice is that you will still see advertising, but it will not be personalised, some preferences will not be remembered between visits, and certain embedded content may not load until you allow it.
8. International transfers
Some cookie providers are located outside the European Economic Area, mainly in the United States. Those transfers rely on the adequacy decision for the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or, failing that, on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses. 9. Updates to this policy
We review this policy whenever we add or remove a service that uses cookies, and whenever the applicable rules change. The last-updated date appears at the top of this document.
